Sisters and Brothers,
This Sunday we begin our observance of Holy Week. If the weather permits the Mass will begin outside on the East porch and will include a procession around the church property. As usual we'll enter the church singing our Hosannas just as the people did when Jesus made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
While Holy Week begins joyous, it doesn't stay joyous for long. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are coming. On Thursday and Friday you are invited to join us as we enter into the Lord's Passion. You are invited to bear witness to the events that took place nearly 2000 years ago.
Perhaps it would be good to understand what Jews believe when they "remember." Remembering is not just recalling a story or events that took place long ago. Rather, remembering is about entering into that story as if you there at the time when the event took place. The story then is no longer their story, it is our story.
Thus during Holy Week, we remember. We enter into the events in a spiritual way so that we are there at the Last Supper. We are there at the trial. We are there at the crucifixion. We are there when they laid Jesus in the tomb. And, thanks be to God, we can be there when Jesus rises from the grave!

Este domingo comenzamos nuestra observancia de la Semana Santa. Si el clima lo permite, la misa comenzará afuera en el porche este e incluirá una procesión alrededor de la propiedad de la iglesia. Como de costumbre, entraremos a la iglesia cantando nuestras Hosannas tal como lo hizo la gente cuando Jesús hizo su entrada triunfal en Jerusalén.
Mientras que la Semana Santa comienza alegre, no permanece alegre por mucho tiempo. Jueves Santo y Viernes Santo están llegando. El jueves y el viernes, te invitamos a unirte a nosotros cuando entramos en la Pasión del Señor. Usted está invitado a dar testimonio de los eventos que tuvieron lugar hace casi 2000 años.
Quizás sería bueno entender lo que creen los judíos cuando "recuerdan". Recordar no es solo recordar una historia o eventos que tuvieron lugar hace mucho tiempo. Más bien, recordar se trata de entrar en esa historia como si estuvieras allí en el momento en que tuvo lugar el evento. La historia entonces ya no es su historia, es nuestra historia.
Así, durante la Semana Santa, recordamos. Entramos en los eventos de una manera espiritual para que estemos allí en la Última Cena. Estamos allí en el juicio. Estamos allí en la crucifixión. Estamos allí cuando pusieron a Jesús en la tumba. Y, gracias a Dios, podemos estar allí cuando Jesús se levante de la tumba.
